Digital Military Portraits from Replace Face of the Celebrities

Replaceface is an beautiful digital painting project by Steve Payne.
George Dawe was an English portrait artist who painted 329 portraits of Russian generals active during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Steve Payne was using digital copies of these paintings as a basis for my own work which involves incorporating my friends, family and even some celebrities into the paintings using photoshop.

Artemis Günebakanlı’nın hazırladığı, feat.No.01′deki Kurt Cobain dosyası “Arkadaşım Kurt”.

Yazar Alper Çeker, Müzisyen Ceylan Ertem, Şair Küçük İskender, Radyo Programcısı Hakan Tamar ve Zihni Müzik’ten Zihni Şahin bize arkadaşları Kurt’ü ve Nirvana hikayelerini anlattılar.

“Kurt Cobain, 5 Nisan 1994’te Seattle’daki evinde hayatına son verdiğinde ardında Nirvana’yla kaydettiği üç stüdyo albümü, bir unplugged albüm, b-side’lardan oluşan bir toplama albüm, sayısız bootleg ve onun sesini kendi sesi kabul etmiş milyonlarca insan vardı. Aklındaysa intihar notundan anladığımız kadarıyla bir Neil Young şarkısı. Bir kere gidildi mi, geri dönülemeyeceğini biliyordu. Ama rock ‘n’ roll hep yaşayacaktı.
Teşvikiye’de bir kaset tezgahında, bir şairin evinin duvarında, Moskova’da bir caddede yaşayacaktı. Seattle’ın 9700 kilometre doğusunda, birbirinden habersiz insanlar aynı şarkıları dinleyip kendilerine bir yol çizecek, onları radyoda çalacak, sahnede söyleyecek, dergilere yazacaktı.

Kurt Cobain’e çok unvan verildi, çok sıfat yakıştırıldı: Kayıp kuşağın sesi, X kuşağının sözcüsü, dahi, peygamber, ilah, keş, kurban… Gerçekten bunlardan biri miydi, yoksa bunların hepsi miydi? Küçük İskender’in Lucifer’ın Bisikleti’nde yazdığı gibi, “bazı coğrafyalarda Kurt yükseklere, nirvanaya yükselir, boğuk ama gür bir ışık saçar… sesi içlidir, kırık ve kırgındır.” Kurt Cobain bizim kırık ve kırgın arkadaşımızdı. Birlikte anılarımızın olduğu, oturup şarkı söylediğimiz, derdimizi anlayan, derdini anladığımız bir dost.

Alper Çeker, Ceylan Ertem, Küçük İskender, Hakan Tamar ve Zihni Şahin bize arkadaşları Kurt’ü ve Nirvana hikayelerini anlattılar. Ölümünün 18. yılında Kurt Cobain’i bir “yıldız” olarak değil, gitar çalıp şarkı söyleyen genç bir adam olarak hatırlıyoruz.

“Frank E Hollywood”

Frank ‘t Hoen was born with a paintbrush in his hand in the 80s in Utrecht, the Netherlands. His passion for painting came at an early age, being influenced by American cartoons and pop culture and later on by classical artists such as Modigliani, Marcel Duchamps and Picasso. For the last decade he has been living in Amsterdam, where he both studied and developed his skills and reputation as an artist.

Frank’s early work is mainly dominated by street art. He made the transition to canvas in the late nineties, inspired by workshops at the St. Joost Academy for Fine Arts in Breda. Ever since 2003, Frank has exposed his work through several exhibitions in and around Amsterdam. The centre key of his portraits lies with women, who he paints in his own unique style.

Artist Disappears Herself Into Backgrounds-Look carefully!

Peruvian artist Cecilia Paredes’ latest work has her disappear into backgrounds—not through magic but with paint.

Using an array of make-up, body paint and costumes, Paredes blends herself seamlessly into intricate backgrounds and then photographs herself.

Being “part of the landscape” is Paredes’ way of exploring how one has to “adjust in order to belong” after displacement and migration.
