You can create a great logo design just with playing type. You don’t need a line an icon or anything else.. A strong type will always stand out!
Nike logo is 40 years old
21 AugFunny how 40 years swoosh by: June 1971 is the date the Nike Swoosh was launched. Designed by Carolyn Davidson for $35 – a “Bargain Brand,” the Dept. of Nike Archives notes in its extraordinarily understated tabloid-sized newsprint history of the mark (produced for the “benefit of Nike employees”). What others might take an entire book (and many trees) to convey – explaining the origin and history of the Swoosh logo – the “DNA” accomplished in a mere 28 pages.
Included are commentaries by designers and design critics, former employees and recollections by Phil Knight, the co-founder of Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS) that evolved into Nike.

Buro Destruct
10 AprIn 1994, graphic artists’ collective “Büro Destruct” makes its first appearance,
the brainchild of HGB Fideljus (Fidel Berger, 1971) and Lopetz (Lorenz Gianfreda, 1971).
It is a development from the existing “Destruct Agentur”, founded in 1992 to promote young artists.
Over the next few years the initial interest group grows into an internationally acclaimed design studio.
Today, the four-man outfit comprises of MB (Marc Brunner 1970), H1reber (Heinz Reber, 1971),
HeiWid (Heinz Widmer, 1967) und Lopetz (Lorenz Gianfreda, 1971). Since 2002, the initiator
behind the original “Destruct Agentur”, HGB Fideljus, has been running the “Büro Discount”
gallery and shop in Zurich.
In 1999, subsequent to a publication of their own, a first comprehensive work collection is released
by Berlin-based publishing house “Gestalten”. The book, «Büro Destruct», illustrates a new interpretation
of once highly regarded Swiss graphic design. The book has been a source of inspiration in design agencies
ever since, and is used as teaching material in schools.
From the start, Büro Destruct has kept open the boundary between art and commercial graphic design,
as is testified to by the number and variety of techniques and materials employed, and reflected
in projects for clients from widely differing fields. The two publications that follow, “Büro Destruct II” (2003)
and “Büro Destruct III” (2009), document typeface design, illustration, product and character design,
corporate identity, logo and poster design, animation and 3D. A website for the Büro Destruct typefaces
is launched in 2002 under the name “Typedifferent”.
Exhibitions, lectures and workshops in different countries enable the Büro Destruct project to keep itself
in a process of continual renewal and to widen its contacts to Bern, the lovely capital of Switzerland,
in line with their motto: Small City – Big Design.
